The criminal case against Curt Andersen, who is charged with the fatal shooting of house cleaner María Florinda Ríos Pérez de Velásquez, is pending trial in Indiana.
Case Details & Status
• The Charges: The Boone County Prosecutor's Office charged 62-year-old Curt Andersen with voluntary manslaughter, a Level 2 felony, for shooting Ríos Pérez through his locked front door. If convicted, he faces 10 to 30 years in prison.
• Current Legal Status: Andersen was released from the Boone County Jail after posting a $25,000 bond. Under his bond conditions set by Judge Matthew C. Kincaid, he was ordered to wear a GPS monitor, surrender his firearms and passport, and complete regular monthly check-ins.
• Trial Schedule: Initially scheduled for late March 2026, a Boone County Superior Court judge rescheduled the jury trial following a pretrial hearing.
Background of the Incident
The shooting occurred on November 5, 2025, in Whitestown, Indiana. María Florinda Ríos Pérez de Velásquez, a 32-year-old mother of four and Guatemalan immigrant, was operating her house-cleaning business alongside her husband. Due to a GPS misrouting, the couple accidentally arrived at Andersen’s residence instead of a nearby model home they were hired to clean.
When they attempted to use a company-provided key to unlock the front door, Andersen fired a single shot from inside the home through the locked door without warning, striking Ríos Pérez in the head. Police confirmed there was absolutely no evidence she ever entered the home
