Has anyone gone to talking therapy ever? Was it helpful?

Doing everything within my control 'right'. Lifting consistently, eating right, getting sunlight/fresh air consistently. Lots of other stuff in my life I can't do much about, ranging from family problems to uncertainty with my job. Mentally just weighed down to the point where I can't fully function.
Wondering if therapy could reasonably help? Would definitely decline any medication.

What do you hope for a therapist to accomplish? Be specific
In other words, in what way do you think a therapist would help you

Feel like I'm walking around carrying 200 lbs of various mental anguish, and no matter how much I try to focus on IRL things to improve the things driving my mental anguish (working out, trying to socialize, be better at wageslaving, etc), can't shake it off and can't (yet) meaningfully improve those IRL factors. And it's creating this negative feedback loop where I feel worse about everything, and then have worse performance in everything, which makes me feel worse about everything, and so on. For example, missing a lot of workouts because I can't get myself out of bed recently. Just lay there in dread for hours at a time until I really peel myself off.
At this point IDK what I can hope for from either therapy or life. But I'm willing to do anything to improve my situation. Which is why I'm asking if therapy could possibly help or do something from people who have experience with it.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) (basically, more intense CBT) are very effective -- even if you are not mentally ill and just want to change something about your behavior.
But the vast majority of people who do various "talk therapies" just engage in stupid "feel good" bullshit that is basically just talking about your feelings. If anything, it is probably harmful because it trains you to constantly be thinking about your feelings -- which is just an exacerbation of two of the main symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Lots of Psychs that claim to do CBT might not even actually do it. Or they do some bullshit female watered down version.
Either find a MALE who specializes in CBT and is HARDCORE about it -- or find a female who does DBT.
WARNING: These actually require a lot of work. If you just show up to your appointment every week or whatever, you will get little out of them.
