They can be sent back to Turdistan if they don't toe the line, and it's very hard bureaucratically for them to switch visa sponsors. So companies can force them to do exactly what they want done.
You would probably see a lot more Mark Zuckerberg situations where employees jump ship or steal technology without it. Not saying those situations aren't justified.
Incidentally, the reason slavery started in the US was that there was so much available land that farm workers just bounced and started their own farms a little farther out onto the frontier. The plantation owners didn't just need cheap labor, they needed captive labor. |
