I don't know what rates are like everywhere, but I'd guess ~$500 for initial consult and $150-250 per 90-day check-in. Some do genetic testing to find out what drugs are a good fit for you, and that's like $500. My psychiatrist buddy does talk therapy for $150, and if you want meds it's another $100 on top of that. I don't think he offers a meds-only option, but others certainly do. People will pay a fortune for a psychiatrist who does talk therapy, but most psychiatrists can't do it. They also seem to line up with observations. Like a patient will bitch about side effects from a drug, then they take the genetic test and the test results show that drug is no good for them. I don't think the tests are good for anything else, but they are helping to reduce the number of people on SSRIs for sure. All the other doctors in all the other specialties have decided that psychiatrists "aren't real doctors." Med students who choose psychiatry are regarded as drop-outs, the equivalent of law students who decide not to become lawyers. All these other assclowns might be great psychiatrists, but instead they choose some other residency so they can preserve dat respect.
10 years later, these same poor assclowns are all thinking "I shoulda done psychiatry" because they are burned out and getting replaced by computers. |
