He said many months ago that if his poll numbers tanked he might just quit. And he said pretty recently that if the establishment ran a third party candidate against him then he probably wouldn't even campaign.
This isn't a guy who has spent his life wanting to be president. His whole shtik is being a winner. If he realizes he will be known for losing badly to an awful candidate like Hillary he may decide not to fight the establishment too hard if they try to steal it from him.
That way he can say "I won the nomination, and would have beaten Hillary easy, but they stole it from me." |
