I think the main reason is that, since Germany has few natural resources, it has always relied upon smart, hardworking people to fuel its economy. But with each passing year, Germans are having fewer kids, and they are importing free-loaders from Asia and Africa. I really don't see a way out of this for them.

I think the biggest change is obviously the greatly increased energy costs, which is a killer for an advanced, export-based economy
of course they are also over regulated and stagnant just like pretty much every other country in the EU

Yes, that's part of what I meant by "few natural resources." Their deal with Russia was not sustainable, given what Russians are like.
