Personally, I think journals are stupid for a variety of reasons that I won't get into. But they really do matter to employers, even secondary journals. It shouldn't matter because journals are a stupid, pointless waste of time, and hardly anyone reads the damn things - but they do score you points with firms. It was a mistake that I didn't do a journal in law school. It also makes for an uncomfortable question during an interview... So why didn't you do a journal? Those are exactly the traits most biglaw firms are looking for. So yes, a secondary journal is a plus for employers. But it isn't a huge plus - don't do it if you'll hate it.
