What did Temple jews do with all those lamb carcasses leftover from sacrifices?

If I recall correctly there were sacrificing rooms just adjacent to the room where God lived. That one u couldn't go into. There must have been dozens of lambs slaughtered daily, at least.
What do you do with them at night if, hypotheically, God doesn't actually eat the lambs that got slaughtered that day? Do you just have a burn pit and create a cover story? Or do you cart them out of town and feed them to hyenas? |

There's no way the people of Jerusalem wouldn't know about all this lamb meat getting consumed. They may have even liked it.
Think about it: you raise a lamb, and it has market value strictly as a source of food. A pilgrim comes from out of town and pays you that same market value, but then he doesn't eat it. He just dumps the carcass in the temple, then he gets the fuck out of town (since it cost a fucking fortune to travel back then, and even one night's boarding in a foreign city was going to gut your net worth). So now this lamb gets distributed as food by temple authorities, and maybe you get to eat it. Isn't that what people mean by having your cake and eating it too? |
