Millennials hate boomers afaik. They mock their wealth, their houses, their retirements. They spit on the American Dream while secretly envying those who lived it. They pretend to be victims. They blame the economy, the institutions, the world. But never themselves.
What do millennials stand for? Not much. They are a generation of cliques. Not friendships, not brotherhoods, but cliques—closed circles, tight as fists, locking out anyone who threatens their small, brittle realities. Boomers, for all their faults, still had neighbors. Gen X, for all their aimlessness, still had subcultures. Millennials have only controlled spaces. The curated group chat. The gatekept Discord. The job where no outsider is welcome unless they say the right words, believe the right things, blend in perfectly. They do not build. They do not invent. They do not create. They shuffle. They hoard opportunities and ration them out among their own. They do not grow their world, so they make sure no one else does either. They call it progress. They call it fairness. It is only fear. This is the generation that mistook whining for revolution. That thought posting was political action. That thought standing in line at Starbucks was the same as surviving the Dust Bowl. They held no great protests, no real upheavals. They demanded safety, demanded comfort, demanded that no one disturb them. And they got it. They were given HR departments as their guardians, social media as their holy text, antidepressants as their communion. They were told they were special, and they believed it, even as they grew older and softer and sadder.
At least Gen X had grunge. At least they had something that reflected their discontent. Millennials never even had that. They had pop music that pretended to be counterculture. They had bands designed by committee to sell angst in digestible portions. Their rebellion was aesthetic. Their politics were lifestyle choices. They grew up, but they never stopped being kids. Adults in cartoon socks. Wives who call their husbands “boyfriend.” Men who play video games deep into their 30s and 40s, yet have no sense of play. They wear youth like a mask. Behind it, they are anxious, empty, exhausted.
Yes, boomers are greedy. Yes, Gen X is broken. But millennials? Millennials are *insipid*. They are nothing. A generation of human mannequins, dressed up in ideologies they do not understand, speaking in slogans they did not invent, waiting for the world to hand them meaning.
And if no one does? They will keep waiting imho.
