any xo scholars in competition in credit cards want to enlighten me if this bill is XO or TLS?

I assume TLS because it's Durbin, but I don't know

this is what I'm asking

proponents say it will cause an increase competition in credit cards which will benefit consumers

opponents say it will cause payments systems to fall apart and we will lose all our loyalty points or something

those are the conclusory claims about its effects

I don't really know what it does or how it does it though

based on the limited info it sounds like we should SUPPORT this. anything where one side is arguing about loyalty points means the other side has the better argument.

CC interest rate should be tied to whatever the bank is paying on interest. something like, a company can't charge more than 20% interest more than they pay in a savings account. if they can't make it work with such ridiculous flexibility they should go out of business. there is no need to charge consumers 35% interest rates on credit cards other than greed.

lol fuck that shit. banks should be able to charge any rate they want on a CC. if the rate is too high and you actually give a shit about the rate at all because you're a dumb prole then get a different CC or just consider managing your finances more better.

I think even more important than interest on debt is the amount the CC charges the merchant for each transaction, it's like 2-3% or even more on every transaction, and that arguably has an even bigger impact on consumers as a whole than interest on debt

(we don't see this because the merchant pays, but we pay for it in higher prices)

I think the idea is that increased competition would compete away some of this margin

Banks (chase, citi, capital one, etc) are the ones issuing the credit and make money on the APR %. CC companies (MA, Visa, etc) only administer the transactions and get the flat fee.

both are oligarchies essentially but there's enough competition to not have any one go completely off the rails (I duno if Amex still is able to charge double what Visa/MC do bc of boomers clinging to their plat cards but still).
