Date: April 10th, 2025 5:17 PM Author: Demanding vivacious dog poop legend most large companies started doing this decades ago but not because of tariffs. they started moving out of china or adding additional capacity in vn, th, etc due to rising labor rates in china. vn and th were particularly attractive because the labor pools in those countries were young and better educated. more recently, the multinationals have been in search of cheaper and cheaper labor pools so you see more and more product being made in sri lanka, bangladesh, etc. africa is the next frontier. i am currently advising a company that is building apparel mfg in ethiopia and madagascar.
when op states that it is already happening, it is, in the sense that companies are lighting up factory lines that have been under utilized or dormant, shifting the production out of china elsewhere. the tariffs just accelerated the plans that have been in place for many years. |
