Taylor Kirk, the singer-songwriter behind the band Timber Timbre, has died at 44.
A representative for Kirk confirmed to CBC Music that the singer died suddenly on April 14.
"We are devastated by the profound loss of Taylor and we will miss him immensely," the statement said. "His memory will live on through his music that we are fortunate to have for the rest of our lives."
Kirk founded his folk-noir moniker Timber Timbre in 2005, and released debut album Medicinals in 2007. Timber Timbre's self-titled third album was longlisted for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize, and his next album, 2011's Creep on Creepin' On, was shortlisted for the prize.
Timber Timbre's music was also heavily placed in film and TV shows, including on Breaking Bad, Russian Doll and Sarah Polley's Stories We Tell.
"The band, led by Taylor Kirk — a crooner with a deceptively sweet voice — makes spare, evenly paced songs that sound like late-night echoes from a swampy woods," NPR Music said in its described Timber Timbre, when Kirk came in for a Tiny Desk performance.
"It's the kind of music you'd expect to hear in a David Lynch movie, or in HBO's deeply disturbing series True Detective: dark and unnerving, yet oddly seductive."
The Tiny Desk set includes songs Run From Me and Grand Canyon. Kirk's most recent Timber Timbre album was 2023's Lovage, which was his seventh album.

That's the same dude in both?
Looks 70 in the first one because his hair looks white and his face looks weathered. He's seen some stuff I guess.
Not so bad in the second, just unfortunate hairline, I would've thought 50s.

some people just look old as shit sooner.
it balances out in the end. by 70, everyone looks like shit, and even if you have a full head of non-grey hair and a facelift, you just look bizarre (and obv 70), not "young."
