I don't think I am, I just use my "by you" page as a scratchpad for incomplete thoughts. I could've said what I think the purpose is but it would take a lot of exposition to make the point convincingly so I'd only do it if someone was interested; my own purposes could be served just as well by an empty thread.
anyway, the purpose is to allow the revision of an ongoing event from one thing to another thing.

I think without it we would not be able to engage in one-shot learning mediated through play and discovery the way we do. and I wouldn't say it's emergent I'd say it's distributed and evolving, but there are situations where "emergent" applies like waking up from sleep.

why do people make a big deal about the difference between "the physical" and "the mental"?
I think there is a nascent feeling that human beings somehow "invented" or "own" the mental and thereby place it in a privileged relationship to "matter"
In reality we are not responsible for any of it, so it's actually not an interesting distinction. You can notice this by noticing who does make a big deal out of it, namely, the gross disgusting weird australian creep "david chalmers"
I hate that fag so much. It pisses me off how well engineered his shit arguments are despite being wrong, like he anticipated every possible objection, although part of it is due to him engaging in extended counterargument chains to every paper that has been written in response to his work. It's the "zombie" argument that really set me off though.

All he does is describe every possible argument and then pick the one that's the most kooky so he can perpetuate his "magical consciousness" shtick. That tells you what you need to know about whether consciousness is magical.

Does anyone take chalmers seriously anymore? I feel like the LLM era totally curb stomped all these retards into the dirt. The people I read and talk to in AI don't take him seriously at all except the people who dishonestly use his "arguments" to push their own preferred ideas and interpretations
In philosophy of mind he is still taken very seriously, but the sort of people you are referring to are all into global workspace, IIT, higher order, and recurrent processing, and don't really take chalmers seriously.

Yeah because anybody trying to do or build anything in the real world (AI, neuroscience, robotics) is only concerned with things that actually exist in the real world (unlike David Chalmers's imagined fantasies)
