the key thing is that in the last 7 years russia worked diligently on passportication - so a bunch of crimeans now have russian passports. this is important because it means an attempt to invade crimea will be treated the same as an invasion of russia. russia has said that it will use tactical nukes against any attack on key russian infrastructure/governance |
