are there any schools where u could do that if you have no background in cs? what are the job prospects if you go to a non-top masters?

BU has a program that lets you go straight for an MS in 8 fields of engineering, including very related fields that would allow you to apply for the same jobs as CS grads (e.g., systems engineering, computer engineering, etc.) See http://www.bu.edu/eng/leap/

interesting. sounds like a good program. but they require LOR and GRE. which would mean that I'd have to give up on med school and ask for those things from profs that already wrote me med school LORs reluctantly. And it's not like getting that degree means that 2yrs from now i'll get a 100k/yr job and 4yrs from now i can move to russia and work remotely as a web developer or something. i have much better chance of getting into med school and making that $300k/yr as a hospitalist and doing something like an online "concierge" dr on the side.

Wait, you think med school will give a shit about a degree in CS?

You would be better off getting a degree in nursing or some shit than CS.

cr. if you do bad in the program, you can forget about ever attending med school. they don't care how "difficult" the program is, they are HUGE gpa whores.

I guess he could just not list it, right? But still, I don't get where he is going with this at all. Even if he got great grades so what? Med school will just think it is odd and demonstrate a lack of commitment.

are you a dumbass? i meant to do this instead of medicine. but i am currently applying to med schools and i wouldnt want to waste time/resources on engineering applications if it could sabotage my med school applications. a typical software engineer gets paid $50-80k/yr and does a more demanding job than a doctor who makes $300k/yr. most engineers are looing to do mba or jd to get out of their difficult and underpaid jobs. the only reason i would consider computers is because there is a chance i could come up with some business idea to become a millionaire. but it's not worth the risk. if i have a business idea it should be simple enough to implement without any education.

i can say for sure that if i did have a masters in engineering and a regular engineering job at $100k/yr i could easily import a hot russian women right now. but having wasted so much time, i cant afford this now. i need med school prestige.

you would be hard pressed to find a job since you have no experience and would be qualified for entry level gigs

There are quite a bit of programs that will let you in since you have a math background.

Why not try to get a tech job with your Math degree though?

A) No idea when they started, but I know a bunch of people with non-CS related degrees that do IT. Back in the day you really didn't need a CS degree.

B) If he took some classes or got the right WE before then maybe. He has zero background in IT. No one is training him ITE.

correct; its a field that cares what you know and can do, not your "prestige" or fancy pieces of paper. who wudda thought? they really dont care about your knowledge of O(n) and other shit u learn as CS. interview questions are more about how much java do u know lol

I know people who directly got questions on the time complexity of algorithms at interviews. This is fairly basic stuff that you really need to know.

Also, I wouldn't say CS doesn't care about prestige or degrees. That is really pushing it. Pre-ITE it was fairly easy to overcome the lack of a great degree but I question how easy it is to do now, when a ton of people have both knowledge and great degrees.
