CLIP blows at text generation inside images as an example, but this is an architecture specific problem related to BPEs. this sort of argument is fragile and probably won't generalize to other, more versatile architectures. as compute costs fall, the architectures themselves can become more flexible and the human design element completely taken out of the equation. eventually the encoding scheme, NN architecture, optimizer and gradient calculation will all be meta-learned to maximize generalization power. an argument built on the failures of existing models will almost certainly not hold up (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=5528711&forum_id=2#47663055) |
