xo is about equally divided between thinking it's an excellent show with modern social commentary you don't see anywhere else (best outcome in the first season is a young white dude who has been left behind from society due to his identity) and people who think it's gc slop for women.
imo it's the former. the luxury hotel backdrop and poking fun at the entitledness of rich white people is a vehicle for some pretty profound commentary that you won't find anywhere else. it's not really about that. but it's enough that some people get sick of it and think it's a low brow "haha the rich people are silly" slop or just soap opera drama. but if you pay attention and get to the end all the characters the set you up to dislike are right and the show is more about everyone being nuanced and complex.
also the first season is genuinely very, very funny and includes sex with men for drugs and sweeney and dondarrio's ample cans. |

it's not really about voyerism, the voyerism is sort of a red herring so that the audience sees them as one dimensional brats at first. but it's certainly not for everyone and many of our most respected poas didn't enjoy it. i'd recommend you at least watch the first episode to try for yourself because it starts out very strong. if you don't like it after that than you probably don't need to bother with the rest. |
