my parents were super poor and TTT when we were younger (my mom is now lower middle class i guess, an nyc teacher, she started when i was like a young teen so she's tenured and has a good # of years)
my brother already has a really good job in IT and i have a degree from a good college and (good willing) will be a doctor. my dad doesn't even have a BA (he did attend a community college tho). so sometimes its possible to "jump" multiple rungs i think...
although i think our family might be special because my parents are old black people and i think they were artificially held back by being black. when my father was growing up in the 50s (he was born in 1937) poor black people didnt really go to college... 2 of his 12 siblings went to college and becaame lawyers but they were like geniuses and the ENTIRE family (like brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nephews twice removed lol) sacrificed to buy them clothes, books, train tickets for vacations home, etc. i think if my parents were growing up in the 2000's instead like me and my brother they would have had real professions since they're pretty smart people. |

yea i just wanted to point out that some people are just from families that are poor/shitty through no fault of their own (like recent immigrants or something) but they go to college and grad school and get good jobs. my high school was FULL of asian recent immigrants so i know tons of people who parents like worked at a chinese restaurant as a waiter and they're a CPA or something. |
