Date: February 4th, 2010 8:47 AM Author: Rusted Flickering People Who Are Hurt I didn't know if what I was doing was stupid or smart. I felt really weird doing it sometimes cause a lot of people kept asking if I had an appointment (which i did not).
But for show, I ended up with several second and third interviews at many top firms with many vice presidents taking time from their day to speak with me for over an hour - which says a lot. I also got a couple offers. I declined all of them, in the end, however, for other reasons. |

Date: February 4th, 2010 10:45 AM Author: Rusted Flickering People Who Are Hurt usually the people that ask you for an appointment are people that are trying to keep you away like security (especially in NYC). Ask if you can directly speak with them for 2 minutes. When the security guard is on the phone with upstairs I usually would ask them to give me the phone.
If there are no guards. Front desk people will usually send the message out and usually someone will come and speak to you.
Speak with someone that has decision making power. I always spoke with a partner or manger. They have a lot more pull and say than an HR person.
Tell them you only need 2 minutes of their time. After you meet - schedule a real appointment this way you get some real 1 on 1. remember they are busy individuals. they have other commitments. get your message across fast why they should hire you. then be out.
the first few are intense. but they'll make a man or woman out of you. |
