No direct experience but you can get a forensic mosaic from adwork/industry mags/videos etc. They'd come out at around the same time but prior to this thing stirring from its sleep in perhaps the xbox/gc/ps2 gen there weren't really "console wars" outside of the board rooms of the respective companies involved At some point in the 00s there was a paradigm shift to these sorts of products not just being used as badges to make and mark elements of consumer identity (which really blew up in the 80s as far as vidya goes iirc) but these identities then began to compete while using their hosts as gladiator-knights of capital, symbiotically defending and advancing their chosen badge. The implications of this are troublesome |

But the real rule is that you can assert an opinion as fact as long as it conforms to the dominant narrative. For instance, you can say "climate change is real" which in reality is an opinion, but according to ape consensus is "fact". If you say "maybe some models overstate it", hominids will tell you its an opinion.
