Never retiring would feel more doable if time off were permitted

We are actually entering into a business cycle where it will be pretty easy to get new jobs. So you can just work for 2 years. Take 6 months off. Work for 2 years, take off 6 months.
Switching careers is also getting easier.
Maybe you won't be as high of an earner on this route, but after you save up a couple million and have it invested what you are making in salary matters less.
Just keep working, keep saving something (even $5/day), and doing your thing but not spending more than you make.
Never retire. You'll never run out of money on this plan.

I'm telling you though, this doesn't matter any more.
You're scared because a resume gap was basically a professional killer all the way up to about 2021. Now, nobody cares.
Actually, they used to say that for your resume you should only include about 15 years. I'd only include the last 5 years. Nobody cares about ancient history.
Also, just save up your first $3m or whatever and then who cares if you only make $80k as long as the job is good? Just find a good job and take it and live off of what you make and let your savings continue to grow. That's the way. Find a way to make it from day to day and enjoy your life. The actual dollar amount you're getting paid matters a lot less if you have $3m+ already saved/invested.
