Operational surprise was achieved by basically only advancing with border units. The core Russian offensive arm that they have been building for two years now is sitting on the Sumy border. Kharkov drew 29 Ukrainian battalion elements off the Donbass front. I say battalion elements because the Ukrainians no longer have operational brigades or even proper battalions. It’s roughly 3 Russian divisions worth of combat power to go chase one Russian B rank blocking force. The 29 battalions walked into a wall of Lancet drones. Over 200 Lancet videos in 10-11 days. They lost 14 Grads, 9 Bogdana Howitzers, something like 40 other howitzers, a full brigade worth of tanks and IFVs etc… And all of this has enabled Russia to advance in Donbass. The entire line is buckling and Russia is advancing a mile a day across a thousand mile front now. And Kharkov isn’t even close to stabilized for the Ukrainians. In another couple weeks the Russians will unfold their Sumy operation and there are no Ukrainian reserves to meet this force.
