I worked on this case a decade ago and there was truly some funny accounting going on there. The trustee faggot treated a dollar as a dollar, so somebody who deposited a dollar a week ago was treated the same as somebody who deposited a dollar in 1995. Then if that person from 1995 got 94 cents back (no accounting for gains, just their deposit), it's a "94% recovery." Despite the headline numbers, they did slightly worse than Tommy when considering inflation and lost gains.

Quite possibly, but I gave you (and everybody else there) the backsignal handslash and you didn't react so I had no idea you were a poaster

Why didn’t he Madoff invest in the stock market? The gains he was stating weren’t especially large, they were simply especially smooth. He could have kept it going for a lot longer

You can't, but the percentage reporting is pretty dishonest. Investing one dollar 30 years ago and getting 94 cents back isn't a 94% recovery, it's just phrased that way to trick proles

The recovery percentage should, at least, account for inflation-- the trustee's decision to treat $1 a week ago the same as 1995 dollar was nuts, that's over $2 in today's figures. Since they just finished, adjust the amount actually adjusted to inflation and announce that as the percentage recovery.
I mean, fuck, why didn't the trustee just stick the money in a bank account and wait for interest to accumulate? Then he could pay out 100% in nominal dollars, notwithstanding this is a massive loss for everybody, it might just take a few more years. The media non-critically repeating 94% just shows they don't really understand the case and typed up a press release.
