Stewart admittedly began his career on The Daily Show as a dedicated comedian for the most part – he would identify comedic aspects of the news and riff on them. But he’s since taken to constructing his vision of the right as the target of his humor as a means by which to push a political point, rather than make jokes for the sake of comedy itself. Oliver has picked up where Stewart is leaving off, while increasingly shifting his focus to zeitgeisty ‘social justice’ issues where agenda-pushing tends to be even more ideological and belligerent.
However strong they may be as comedians, their work is no longer humor for its own sake. |
