They just asked them to censor stuff, and the social media companies did it, and would have done it anyway of their own volition (they are aligned with the current US government on everything). In fact tons of social media companies, websites, etc censored these same things voluntarily without the government explicitly asking them to do so
If you take "the law" seriously, and these dorks all do except for Alito and Thomas, this seems like the cr ruling. When you think about it, it doesn't even make any sense to say that the government can't ask social media companies to censor stuff. If the government couldn't do this for some incoherent arbitrary reason, they'd just hire private actors to do the same thing, which is what they've actually done in many cases
It's not a "law" problem that the people in power are insane and evil. And we're never going to stop them via "the law" anyway

If Biden has a new healthcare bill, he really has an obligation to go to the social media companies, explain their position, and respond to frequent criticisms.
But at the same time, the Biden admin obviously shouldn't be reaching out to Twitter saying things like "Why is Alex Berenson still allowed to have an account? He's a purveyor of misinformation."
Supreme Court wasn't interested in drawing that line - but it seems to me a pretty easy line to draw is that the government can be involved in correcting its position but should never be suggesting censorship to a social media company. |
