In August, my clerkship ends in my flyover district. I've been trying hard as hell to get a firm job or ANY job in the city I want to live in, but can't. However, I am planning on moving to that city and sleeping on friend's couches for at least a month, hoping that if I pound the pavement looking for a job I can find one.

I have about $6000 right now and will have probably about $8000 saved up by the time I move there.

How stupid is it for me to do this? This isn't the city I'm from, but it's a city I love. Do I have enough money saved to last me until I find another job?

It's San Francisco. I *do* have connections to SF and still can't find a job there. I've applied all over the country and can't find a single job, so if I'm going to be jobless it might as well be in the city I love. Plus, I can hit the ground running once I get there, giving out my resume and what not.

I'm in a similar boat, so I feel your pain. Clerkship ends in August and still haven't found a job. Tied to one area, though and have probably sent out over 100 resumes with only one interview. Moral....clerkships really are a great experience, but they do not guarantee a job.

As for your question, $8k seems a bit low, but try unemployment insurance. I don't think my state allows it tho because we are considered "term" employees.

About to start a 2 year clerkship with district court judge in 8th Circuit. Would like to work on the west coast after, firm or federal government, don't care which. How do I avoid being these people in 2 years? I thought us attorney's jobs were relatively easy to find for federal clerks if you're not too picky on the location.

Thanks for the info. Of the two term clerks leaving my office, one is headed to a ausa job in flyover country and the other got interviewed by usaos on west coast but not hired. Apparently this is not representative.

What about FTC/DOJ (interested in antitrust)? For firms, just start sending resumes 6 mo. prior to leaving clerkship? Thanks.

A partner at the firm that cold offered me just let me know that I could stay in his guest house, outside of the city, for as long as it takes for me to find a job. (We got along really well and this is, obviously, a MORE than a generous offer. I wonder if I'll have to suck his cock, or something).

I'm thinking this could be good, aside from the lack of rent, because I can probably network through him. Does this change anything?

move in with your parents till you get a new job. don't burn through 8k of emergency money for no reason. you're not even going to enjoy this city you want to live in while being broke
