meet people at the gym, join organizations, get involved in local politics, reach out to facebook friends, let family members know that you're now a lawyer and practice xyz law, meet other lawyers and see if they're willing to give you some of the work they don't want or don't have time to do, etc. come on, man...the shit is not that difficult to figure out.
if you do the above for a minimum of 20 hours a week, i guarantee you'll be well on your way to starting a successful practice. i'm not saying you'll end up making a shitload of money, but you should be able to make a nice living if you do what i listed above and continue to do it on a weekly basis (in addition to being a competent lawyer). |

starting your own firm is more about sales than it is about lawyering. a lawyer who graduated last in his class, but is a great salesman, could easily end up pwning the fuck out of the aspie who graduated #1 in the class and landed biglaw (in terms of career earnings). |

Graduated median and thought my looks and aggressive personality would get me jerbs. Moved to a city way away from school and where I had no ties and couldn't even get DA type jobs. I was devastated and determined to try my best and threw out my shingle. It was tough, but I managed to pay my bills most of the time. I didn't think that I was ever going to get rich or even UMC doing what I was doing, so I bailed on law altogether and moved back to Texas in another field. I would have liked to have been able to make the money that I make now, and still be in law, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Hope things work out for you.
