  as in an independent DAC? pretty much.
 
  every device that takes something digital and outputs analog has DACs. quality internal DACs make a difference and are one of the big things that make more expensive receivers, etc. better.
  
  independent can be measurably better, but whether that's audible is debatable. $10k pure silver speaker wire is measurably "better", although i think anyone that claims they can actually hear a difference is lying.
