Let's explore some pros and cons for Mainlining taking the job offer in Kauai, specifically considering their interests:

Pros:

Outdoor Paradise:

Kauai's natural beauty is unparalleled, with lush rainforests, dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and stunning waterfalls.

While Wyoming boasts its own majestic landscapes, Kauai's tropical climate offers year-round access to hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and other outdoor activities.

Kauai's smaller size makes it easy to explore diverse terrains within a short drive.

Slower Pace of Life:

The island's laid-back lifestyle may appeal to someone seeking a change from the hustle and bustle.

Close-knit communities foster a sense of belonging and support.

Cons:

Limited Opera Scene:

Kauai's focus is primarily on natural beauty and outdoor recreation. While there may be occasional performances or events, a dedicated opera scene is unlikely.

Island Life Challenges:

The remote location can lead to feelings of isolation or "island fever" for some.

Limited cultural and entertainment options compared to larger cities.

The cost of living can be high, especially for imported goods.

Additional Considerations:

Outdoor Repetition:

While Kauai offers diverse outdoor activities, someone accustomed to Wyoming's vast landscapes may find the options feel limited over time.

Small Community:

Close-knit communities can be both a pro and a con.

Privacy can be less readily available, and social dynamics may differ from Wyoming's.

Overall:

The decision hinges on priorities. If outdoor adventure and a slower pace of life outweigh a vibrant opera scene, Kauai could offer a fulfilling lifestyle. However, managing expectations about cultural offerings and the potential for island life challenges is essential.

Suggestions:

Research Kauai's cultural events calendar to assess occasional opera or classical music performances.

Connect with locals online or during a visit to understand the island's social dynamics and potential challenges.

Weigh the appeal of Kauai's natural beauty against the limitations of a smaller community and potential for outdoor repetition.

Remember, the best way to make an informed decision is to gather as much information as possible and weigh the pros and cons against personal priorities and preferences.

Probably less developed and worse public schools and hospitals than anywhere else in USA and the least variety of food and culture

It rains daily for most of the year but you can surf or play golf every morning with almost no one around

But yeah go there if you can live on the beach and work remote. I would get a personal chef who also does grocery shopping

Taking the job in Kauai, especially for someone like Mainlining, presents a unique mix of pros and cons based on lifestyle preferences, interests in outdoor activities, and cultural pursuits like opera.

Pros:

Incredible Outdoor Opportunities: Kauai is known as the "Garden Isle," with stunning natural scenery that includes the Nā Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon (often called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific"), and the lush landscapes of Hanalei Bay. It offers a different kind of outdoor experience compared to Wyoming. While Wyoming boasts wide-open spaces, rugged mountains, and a drier climate, Kauai is tropical, with verdant landscapes and beaches. The hiking opportunities, especially along the Nā Pali Coast, are world-class. The island also has world-renowned surf spots, snorkeling, and tropical rainforests, which contrast Wyoming’s alpine settings.

Tropical Lifestyle: Living on Kauai offers a laid-back, island-style pace of life, which can be appealing if someone prefers a slower, more peaceful existence. Kauai's small population and rural setting create a sense of close-knit community, which could be ideal for people who enjoy peace and quiet.

Warm Weather: Kauai has a warm, tropical climate year-round, which could be a huge bonus for someone tired of cold winters and harsh conditions like those in Wyoming. There’s also an abundance of fresh, tropical food.

Connection to Nature: For someone who thrives in the outdoors, the diversity of Kauai’s ecosystems—from beaches to rainforests—offers daily opportunities for exploration. Even though Kauai is smaller than Wyoming, the biodiversity is greater, with unique flora and fauna not found on the mainland.

Cons:

Limited Cultural Scene: For someone like Mainlining who might appreciate a more robust arts and culture scene, Kauai may feel limiting. While larger islands like Oahu have access to some arts and performances (including some opera, ballet, and theater in Honolulu), Kauai is much smaller and doesn’t have a significant opera scene. For someone passionate about high-culture events like opera, this could be a drawback.

Island Isolation: Kauai is the most rural of Hawaii's main islands, and it is more isolated than the larger islands like Oahu or Maui. This remoteness can create a sense of isolation, especially if you're used to living in more populated or culturally diverse places. Even the outdoors might become repetitive, as the island is relatively small (about 550 square miles). After hiking and exploring the main trails and beaches, you might feel like you’ve seen everything.

Limited Job Market and Amenities: Kauai's economy is largely based on tourism and agriculture. While the job in Kauai offers a specific focus, the island may lack diverse employment opportunities in other fields, limiting career options if one wanted to shift roles. Basic amenities like shopping, dining, and entertainment might also be limited compared to Wyoming’s larger cities.

High Cost of Living: Hawaii, including Kauai, is known for its high cost of living, especially when it comes to housing and groceries. This could be a significant adjustment for someone accustomed to Wyoming’s much lower cost of living. Almost everything has to be imported, driving up prices.

Small Island, Limited Variety in Outdoor Activities: Though Kauai offers a beautiful landscape, it may feel limiting over time. In contrast, Wyoming’s vast, sprawling wilderness offers seemingly endless exploration opportunities. Wyoming's outdoor scene, with its open plains, towering mountains, and national parks like Yellowstone and Grand Teton, is more expansive than Kauai’s more contained environment. Over time, someone like Mainlining might feel that the island’s outdoor offerings are less varied or diverse.

Comparison to Wyoming:

Kauai's Outdoors: More tropical, with coastal and rainforest ecosystems, but confined by the island's size.

Wyoming's Outdoors: Rugged, expansive, and open, with alpine environments, vast plains, and more solitude.

Climate: Kauai offers warm, tropical weather year-round, whereas Wyoming has harsher winters and a much drier climate.

For someone like Mainlining, it comes down to a choice between the rich, albeit smaller, tropical environment of Kauai and the expansive, wide-open freedom that Wyoming offers. The warmth and beauty of Kauai’s landscapes could be inviting, but if cultural depth, arts (like opera), and long-term variety in outdoor activities are important, Kauai might eventually feel a bit limiting.

It's very similar to Wyoming other than the weather. Extremely rural and abundance of nature with high skepticism of city folks. 90% of the island is farms with cows and shit

Have you been there yet? I would stay for a week before deciding. Hawaii can feel suffocating and isolated if you don't know anyone. Using google maps could make you trip out when you expand it and see black ocean for 1500 miles in every direction.

lol not if you’re white

That’s also not enough money. Go look at housing prices. You’ll be in a 1br roach motel. And everything is more expensive and far less convenient.

Lihue is also a long way away from the 180 north coast and the 168 south coast via that one one-lane road.

Hanalei is one of my favorite vacation places. If I won Powerball I’d have a home there.

Not flame. I have a 50/50 chance of getting the job. Should I move there.

Will you partake of the copious outdoor lifestyle opportunities? Or will u sit inside and poast?

Do you have the money to set yourself up properly out there? 115k pa won’t do it if you’re broke to begin with

There’s no movie theater on the island. There’s only one of most stores, e.g. Target, Taco Bell, whatever. Kukui Grove is your only mall, Macy’s is about the highest end store. No country radio station, and every channel is more or less Island/reggae pop. Absolutely nothing is made in Hawaii and on Kauai it all comes in on the ships from Nawiliwili harbor. You have to take a plane to visit the other islands. You CAN get good enough deals on food if you shop sales and clearance. KPD is notorious for letting tourists get by with all kinds of shit but being very harsh on residents. Costco is the largest employer. Electronics don’t last long. Gun laws are LJL. Lot of locals work multiple jobs and are kinda bitter they don’t get to do fun stuff. I’ve never had any issues with the locals treating whitey poorly, but living there might be very different.

Just some random thoughts.

If only there were some other way to shop for goods, listen to music, and watch movies...

Supposedly island fever is a thing. Oh, and about Amazon…

Yeah my sister always complains about Amazon packages taking forever and limited sellers willing to ship there. They have to plan shit like Easter 3 months in advance.

The island is round and there’s one road that goes from about 12:00 to 9:00. That’s probably 2-3 hours one way in good traffic. Bad wrecks and storm damage can stretch that out to…. a lot. Especially north shore. I alluded to this the other day, but if you are looking at a job at Barking Sands you are really going to be limited to where you can go outside of weekends. Lihue you are centrally located and can get everywhere. Don’t underestimate this. If by some miracle you get a job north shore just jump and never look back. It is heaven on earth.

If you're in Princeville you can just chill at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, use their pool or private beach, hangout all day. Seems like they're severely understaffed and no one gives a shit. You'll probably see someone famous

what makes the north shore better than the rest of the island - it is more nature stuff and less developed?

Yeah less developed, incredible landscape in every direction, spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Beachfront properties are parceled into massive lots with privacy from being nestled into a tranquil rainforest with lush vegetation.

Feels way more secluded than the south side. Seems to be where the billionaires buy their 2nd or 3rd homes.

Absolutely go to Kauai to hike and scuba for as long as you can/want. Kauai is 180 unless you’re some faggot extrovert who needs to go to clubs and shit.

I think I could move my remote night job to Hawaii, turn it into evening/afternoon and avoid Hawaii tax by buying a house there and pretending to still be in Florida. But seems expensive to live there and far from civilization

I don't think there is any dating scene at all. Majority of workers live off island and fly back and forth daily or have a tiny room share during the week.

Might find a rich single mom or (or dad) though
