Pilot in command is the person actually flying the aircraft. like Sully was not the pilot in command of the US Air flight, but assumed command after the air strike (he says my plane, and the first officer who was flying says your plane).
it would make more sense that O'hara was evaluating the chick who was actually flying. that being said as i understand it is common for the non flying officer to handle comms with ATC (there was a male voice talking to ATC).
that being said obviously any pilot should be looking around to make sure they arent flying into another plane regardless of whether they are "in command" |
