Topic AAA Gaming is Collapsing
Message guys I don’t know how to say this nicely but the writing is on the wall Xbox is done they’ve gone third party in everything but name and nobody wants to say it out loud because it’s embarrassing and we all grew up with Halo but look at the facts they’re pushing everything to PC and Game Pass is just bleeding them dry and you know it it’s just a matter of time before the hardware division gets folded or spun off or shuttered quietly and we pretend it was never a big deal but we were there we saw it collapse in real time meanwhile Nintendo’s Switch 2 is already priced too high and it’s not even out and I get that inflation is real but come on tariffs are wrecking it and they’re not building new infrastructure to match demand it’s gonna be Wii all over again with shortages and scalpers and disappointment and no real third party support to justify the price tag especially if the launch lineup is just more remasters and ports and we both know it will be it always is and PlayStation god help us PS Plus is such a joke now look at the monthly games like seriously they’re giving us games nobody asked for indie filler or old multiplayer stuff with microtransactions and it’s like they’re trying to make us forget what PS Plus used to be back when you’d get Bioshock Infinite and Metro Last Light and it felt like they cared now it’s shovelware and sports titles and every time someone brings it up the response is “what did you expect for free” like come on it’s not free we’re paying $80 a year for this and getting nothing.
AAA gaming is bloated and dead and all the real creativity is happening in the indie space or it’s being buried by monetization teams and quarterly shareholder calls and we all feel it we all see it the magic is gone and the bubble is cracking and one more failed $300 million live service game is going to pop it once and for all and they’ll act shocked but we won’t be because we saw it coming and said nothing because we were afraid to be called negative. there is no future in AAA right now just remakes remasters broken promises and cinematic trailers with no gameplay and I don’t know how much longer people are going to keep paying $70 for half a game with day-one DLC and battle passes and early access that’s just full price preordering by another name
the crash is coming it’s not a question of if it’s just when and we’re already knee deep in it you just don’t want to admit it yet because nostalgia is a hell of a drug but it’s over imho

This is just a link to the Pc message board…
Anyway who even cares. The best game in the past 10 years was Cuphead. Why do people equate big budgets with a more worthwhile Game? It makes no sense. Solitaire has been played by more people than Horizon Zero Dawn. Minecraft has made 800billionK and it was made by some Nerd in pajamas in a basement. How do these Prep CEOs keep falling for the false promise of spectacle and A-list voice actors and all this shit?

IT WAS BEING USED AS A MARKETING TERM FOR "GOOD GAME" IN 2001. Is Maximo AAA, OYT? Wipeout? Pikmin?!?!
https://www.ign.com/articles/2001/05/30/roundtable-7-e3-2001-highs-and-lows
"While I was most excited over the unveiling of the first playable GameCube games, I have to say that I was most impressed with the amount of great titles displayed for PS2. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid, Jak and Daxter, Maximo, Twisted Metal Black, Tony Hawk 3, Devil May Cry, Herdy Gerdy, Stuntman, Ace Combat 4, Silent Hill 2, Wipeout... The list of quality titles is huge. Whereas Nintendo focused on showing its impressive first-party lineup, Sony showed the world how important wide third-party support is to the appeal of a gaming console. With all these games on the horizon, are there really gamers left out there who are saying they won't buy a PS2 because it doesn't cater to their likings? Walking through all the different E3 booths, it seemed the only company without PS2 titles on display was Nintendo. Developers may have had problems coming to terms with the difficult PS2 hardware in the beginning, but the AAA titles shown at E3 were fast and pretty. Overall, a great show for Sony"
...
"The biggest disappointment for me was the Xbox. "
...
"I think that Sony had the best showing at E3, but Nintendo probably "won" the show. While this might seem like I'm contradicting myself, let me explain."
"The reason I think that Sony had the best showing is that the PS2 had a LOT of truly GREAT games. On the drive back from the show, we discussed it among ourselves and counted in the area of 39 triple-A titles for PS2 at the show. That's more titles than shown for GameCube and that's more titles than will likely be released for GameCube before the end of this year. "
"I thought the GameCube software unveiling was extremely impressive, delivering a handful of AAA titles in playable form, many of which nobody knew existed before. Software like Pikmin from Shigeru Miyamoto proves that the company isn't afraid to push innovation over technology, which is refreshing to me. "
"PS2 was PS2. Not so many highlights, if only because we'd seen so many of the games already, but a very broad base of strong software support. Counting up the games on the way home, we estimated more than 30 AAA games for the system by the end of the year, in addition to what's already out. "
