The newest member of the billion-dollar club posted a total turnover of $1.034bn for 2009, an increase of 7.8 per cent on 2008’s $959.5m. Average profit per equity partner (PEP) was also up, although only marginally. During the 2009 calendar year PEP rose from $855,000 to $860,000, an increase of 0.6 per cent.

this will probably only become clearer as more numbers come out, but the story of 2009 -> partners save themselves first, so associates and staff suffer
It's bullshit, revenues are fairly steady or only down a bit, yet PPP's look fine. Partners, who are supposed to bring in business, can't. Rather than taking a hit, they gut associates, salaries, and other costs (summers, etc.)

As of September 30, the end of Morgan Lewis's fiscal year, 2009 revenue declined by nearly 5 percent to $1.07 billion from $1.12 billion in 2008. Profits per equity partner (PPP) dropped 15 percent to 2006 levels. The firm's 2009 financials contrast sharply from 2008--that year, Morgan Lewis saw an 8 percent boost in PPP.
