I enjoy golf with good bros, and I definitely like being outside and doing something physical, but I have played some rounds with insufferable companions.

Also, I'm not very good.

Also, I think carts are stupid.

Finally, once I stole some Asian woman's sand wedge by accident (thinking it was mine) and didn't realize my error until I was half-way down the mountain.

Golf carts are a little decadent but almost a necessity for playing a course in the sun belt during the summer. Saves a caddy from roasting and gives you a place to sit while you're waiting for your swing

I’d rather carts be banned and then only the true enthusiasts would be signing up for 1:30 tee times In the middle of summer.

Caddies are really expensive compared to a couple hours of outlet charging but I guess it does create a job

One problem is that golf courses require a certain consistent level of customer volume to stay profitable enough for maintenance costs

golfers are the ones paying the caddies, it doesn't cost the club anything. Courses with walking vs. cart rates are making $ off the carts even if it's like $10. Gas carts are actually lower cost/more profitable than electric even with high gas prices.

caddies are increasingly few and far between any more and most public courses won't even let you carry your own bag. Newer courses are usually designed under the assumption that no one will ever walk.

I've often seen it as a service offered with membership in the club + caddies paid hefty tips

This isn't always the case though

Agreed on the last part
