Ukrainian Telegram channels report that more than 1,000 Geran and Gerbera-type drones were launched against Ukraine in the past 24 hours, with a new wave of 40–50 drones currently tracked heading toward Kiev. The 1,000-drone figure is unverified by official Ukrainian sources at time of writing, but fits the broader pattern of the ongoing multi-wave operation.

Russia launched one of the largest drone attacks of the war on May 13, sending hundreds of Shahed-type drones in multiple waves across 14 regions simultaneously, targeting railway infrastructure, residential areas, ports, and energy facilities. Ukraine’s drone monitoring service recorded 168 drone tracks at a single snapshot on the afternoon of May 13 alone.



The mix of drone types is significant. In April 2026, roughly 66% of all launched Shahed-type UAVs were strike drones produced at Russia’s Alabuga facility, with the remainder consisting of Garpiya, Gerbera decoys, and other variants — a layered composition designed to complicate Ukrainian interception.  Despite Ukraine downing the majority of incoming drones, more than 1,000 out of roughly 6,500 launched in the previous month got through, according to Ukrainian Air Force data, causing cumulative damage to infrastructure and energy systems. 

The new inbound wave toward Kiev is developing. No impact reports confirmed yet.
