One of the hardest lessons that I've had to learn as a shitlaw boss is how incompetent a lot of lawyers are. I have been burned numerous times by shitlaw associates who broke bad and descended into alcoholism, drug addiction, Alzheimer's, etc. Sometimes they just disappear one day.
The general picture that emerges is of a lot of shockingly troubled people who don't function at a high level. And yet they are out and about, accurately representing themselves to the public as lawyers.
What if we all had to pass a bar exam once every ten years? Would that just obliterate the ranks of lawyers, creating a critical shortage? Or would it help our society?
Good question. The pattern that I've seen is that shitlaw associates are often hard working and dependable, until they're not. So they might pass the screening with flying colors for months or years, and all of a sudden flame out.

Cr. I don't want to re-memorize the 4 elements of tenancy by the entirety or whatever every 10 years. How about just the lsat? If you previously passed the bar exam and can score a 153 or something, there is a good chance you're competent. If you can't, there is a good chance you aren't.
