It's clear the lockdowns need to continue until a vaccine is widely available

If I were arguing for lockdowns, I would not emphasize deaths so much. People know they were misled and will not lend credibility to these claims.
The stronger case is this: We still do not know much if anything about CV19. We do know that the symptoms, even for younger healthy people, are terribly painful. They can last weeks and sometimes months. We have no idea about long term ramifications, but there is evidence for organ damage and effects beyond the early suffering.
These unknowns, combined with the fact that CV19 can be lethal to elderly and infirmed, justify continued stay-at-home orders.
To offset the economic costs of this, monthly UBI will begin at 2000, PPP loans will be enlarged with easier forgiveness, and parents will be given further UBI directed towards homeschooling costs. States will try to match expenditures per pupil in public schools.
The public will be given weekly updates as to vaccine trials and $XXX from the federal budget will be allocated immediately to vaccine readiness.

I am not afraid of Covid 19. At all. Full stop.

Sentence fragments?? You must be serious.
tbh, I dont care what youre afraid of. Im not "afraid" either I guess, and just roadtripped from Florida to Arizona and back.
But just because I dont support stay-at-home orders doesnt mean I would not do many things to avoid getting pozzed by some bizarre chinese virus whose effects are largely unknown. I hope the people around me share enough "fear" to not get pozzed too.
Casting it in the language of internet-tuffness is dumb.

Maybe 1-2 million tops. Depending on the breaks.
Another year of lockdowns will kill many more than that through suicide and addiction, etc.

We had lockdowns, and then we had major riots and mass protests. It's what happens when you throw 50% of AAs out of work and probably 50% of young people too.
The collective mental stress all over the place is astonishing to see. Everyone feels it to some degree. And this is only after three months. Imagine if we'd been kept locked down for an extra three months? Or a year?
At this point the sensible thing is to keep bars closed, keep indoor places like gyms and churches (sorry, yes, even churches) closed, no indoor dining, mandate masks in public, and otherwise let people get on in life. That's something most of us can live with. The big unknown is schools come September. Everyone I know wants their kids back in school full time and may tolerate a partial schedule, but anything less than that is going to have a lot of people going crazy.

Where in my post did I say outdoor dining had to close, or golf courses had to close, or people couldn't meet friends in parks, as long as they wore masks?
I'm all for keeping all businesses open with the usual precaution. I don't care if it's Home Depot or a boutique selling gourmet dog food, both can open. Just wear masks and don't allow too many people inside at a time.
But there are some venues that are sensible to keep closed for a bit longer. We can live without bars for another few months or even a year.

oh very generous to allow people to meet friends in parks, provided they're wearing masks.
wtf kind of sense does it make to wear a mask outdoors in a park? none whatsoever. you just want to keep the thumb on.
also ljl at golfing you really are a wannabe boomer

People die, they die of a lot of things, there is one and only one reason COVID should be different, and that is that it is a communicable disease that could tax the health system on spikes leading to unnecessary deaths. Absent that happening or being reasonably likely to happen, we just let it burn through.
If you want to save actual life years, you would be better off banning sugar and corn syrup and cigarettes. If you wanted to save lives, you’d spend billions stopping fent and meth drug trade.

*Sees a disease that literally mostly kills people 1 year or less away from dying*
*Decides prudent thing to do is to ban them from living their life the remaining months*
