It was supposed to be a comedy but couldn’t pull off the humor - I agree with ebert that the main actress playing the mom had wrong acting choices that made her appear mentally ill and thus sympathetic in a way that made it hard to laugh at her

hard disagree. her coming off as totally mentally ill was part of the campy schtick comedy. and Ricki Lake being in it was just gravy.
also, even though it was a "dark" movie, the 90's looking suburban neighborhood brings back great nostalgia.
overall this movie is a 10/10 for any xo poaster and should be on their to watch lists.
