It was something they literally HAD to do in order to preserve potential legal remedies in the event they prevailed in any of the lawsuits, and has been done by democrats before. The lawsuits of course were dismissed for bullshit reasons--file them before the election and they get tossed on ripeness grounds. File them after and they get tossed for "standing."
