STeering back to the original topic: it must have been a thrill for her. ALmost like the first glass of water after a long run. KIndermorgan used to have this attorney exchange program that we would participate in where we were doing legal service work. NGo-based, it allowed us to connect with other attorneys around the globe. MExican, italian, japanese, etc. BUrning man of the legal world sort of shit--wild artistic nights just rolling with each other, doing legal service work, vibing out to the sounds of the senior partners playing guitar and dancing. TTt grads and t14 grads coming together for some real authentic community work.
HErman newell ran the program since at least the 1970s, maybe earlier. REal pioneer in this genre of cross-firm collaboration in the service of a greater cause. IS it something I think about still from time to time--for sure. STarstruck doesn't begin to describe how I felt in the trenches with that group of pro bono motivated attorneys. ILluminating work performed in defense of the downtrodden and destitute--it was a calling card of the righteous soul. LHasa, in Tibet, was the site of the last conference that I was able to attend.
OP's post brought back this rush of memories for me--a very Proustian moment if you'll exchange a madeleine for some black and white digital print and a supporting slash and an iconic logo. ERrands to run, memos to write, machine parts to fabricate; I don't have a lot more time to continue this back-and-forth with you, enjoyable as it's been. ALl I hope you'll come away from this exchange with is an earnest appreciation that you aren't alone in this vast digital sea; there are others like you, suffering alongside with you, triumphing in your shadow and in the great garden of your mind.
