Mastodon are phenomenal and have recorded some amazing albums and blown me away with killer live shows. That said, I have been disappointed more than once with Mastodon albums and live performances.
Lamb of God have never let me down with a release (the closest being Resolution) and are a ferocious, 180 experience live. They're also a purer metal band, especially in the context of "american metal".
But I'll buy albums/tickets for both without hesitation. |
