Date: January 20th, 2025 7:18 PM Author: Klebold 1. N64 really is the best. Fuck off zoomers and anyone who doesn’t judge contemporaneously. The working man’s console, built tough and simple. Its library was small, like a lone diner on a desolate highway, but each game felt carved from stone. GoldenEye, Ocarina, Mario 64—few options, but no waste. It thrived in the moment, a titan of couch camaraderie. Scarcity was its strength, its curse, its legend.
2. SNES Better in retrospect than contemporaneously. Games were expensive as hell and short af. Chrono Trigger is short and like $77. DKC1 is ridiculously overrated in retrospect. If you actually remember the gen you’d realize why people got curious about the genesis. In some ways it wasn’t ENOUGH. SMB3 is better than SMW imho or it’s close anyway. Also a minefield of western slop. Super Metroid is just a fine and dandy game, it’s nothing special imo.
3. NES The genesis of modern gaming, forged in 8-bit iron. Its edges were rough, its mechanics brutal, its sprites raw with potential
4. Switch Would be higher but they made the same Zelda game twice
