by definition we've been out of the recession for like 4 quarters.

BTW, i don' think we are going to double dip (GDP wise, fuck the stock market). I think we are just not going to have a strong rebounding economy, but rather an incredibly slow growth. 10% unemployment is the new norm and this has nothing to do with Palin, Obama, or whoever else

not quite. real unemployment is just high in the short-term, since eventually people will drop out of the workforce. all of europe was used to a culture with high unemployment so they do not have a U-6 unemployment (or whatever the fuck its called) thats nearly as high

I'm not a Dem, but Obama will be re-elected if there is a surprise turn in the economy.

If not, he's fucked.

Young people voted him in office, and there was a poll in the Economist that showed young people's enthusiasm and likelihood to vote in the next election has fallen to about 1/2 the level as it was in 2008.

Yeah, too much shit in too short of a period of time. The whole schtick was that this was going to be the opposite of Bush. IRL, it was a repeat of Jimmy Carter and not Bill Clinton.

Also, during the election his antics with playing basketball with NBA stars and Michelle's living like a diva in Spain while Americans continued to lose their jobs will be played on loop basically everywhere you look.

Yep. It also allows the most extreme partisan elements of society to have disproportional influence due to each party's primary system. Each party tries to elect as extreme of a candidate as they think they can get away with without the middle deciding that the other party is the lesser evil. If there were several moderate and libertarian parties then this entire way of thinking would become a thing of the past.

It is a positive not a normative statement - they were impacted even more harshly by ITE than other groups. The point is that they will feel screwed and will not be running to vote for Obama again when they were much better off under Bush. Yes, I get that one could retort that they are, on average, less educated, were more likely to buy a home they couldn't afford on bad terms, etc. but that isn't relevant to our analysis here.

lol this is completely wrong. As Obama's approval rating has steadily plummeted among all groups, guess what demographic has remained at a steadfast 90+% approval rating very week? Yep you got it - blacks.

Last week he was down to 93% approval among blacks (verses 96 fucking percent this time last year.) Does anyone else find this disturbingly absurd?

Of the blacks that actually do vote in 2012, 9 out of 10 will still vote for Obama in the face of economic apocalypse.

I question the IQ of anyone who thinks a politician is the cause of or solution to the current economic situation.

30 years of people buying huge homes they can't afford, market manipulation by the feds to create artificial bubbles, using credit cards they can't back up, MA's in sociology, Cooley Law School... its our TTT culture that's at fault.

For the Record

1) Economists still don't know exactly what ended the Great Depression. There aren't enough accurate government statistics for them to know exactly (they probably have to find old company, state, and local figures..)

2) I'm pretty sure this market failure occurred by policies by businesses while Bush was in office. Obama has not been in office long enough to create a market failure of this sort (in fact if you remember, the market failure began during the election). And tax policy would largely effect the GOVERNMENT BUDGET, not the level of production in the country. Government transfers would increase production, but the government can only give so much until its borrowing extravagant amounts of money just to ward off a depression. The Federal Reserve could create policies, but putting too much money into the economy will create a period of high inflation and followed by larger unemployment.

The cause of this downturn is well established by now. Democratic policies.

The primary cause is Democratic push to extent home ownership to low-income minorities, injecting excess risk into the market.

Bush and the Central Bank fueled the risk through excess leverage and low interest rates.

Obama needs to quickly get rid of the excess risk (low-income people who have no business owning a home), but allow the high levels of leverage to continue.

Of course obama didn't cause the original problem. He merely extended it far past the amount of time it should have taken to run its cource and turned a cyclical recession into a borderline depression by being an anti-business faggot.

The ratings agencies are to blame for most of the original crisis. Sophisticated investors can make their own decisions and live or die by the results when provided with good information, but the system breaks down when the decisions are based on fraudulent information. It is my understanding that Mr. Hussein's financial "reform" pays little to no attention to these ratings agencies.
