Subject: easiest job that pays a decent amount

will be graduating with no debt and top of the class from a top school... what is the easiest possible job to get in terms of money/time ratio? How hard would it be to get said job in 2010?

high school? What about teaching poli sci or history at a community college? wouldn't that be better in terms of money and flexibility?

You can't stop giving a fuck until you've taught about five years. Then you've got tenure and union protection.

what kind of interesting stuff? runs the gamut. Foreign polic or domestic policy? Health, education, welfare, labor, financial regulation, etc. etc. you name it, think tankers are doing it.

The biggest part of the job is defining a problem (something currently fucked up) and writing reports/opeds/testimony etc. the detail reccomendations for policy (what govt should start doing, stop doing, or do better).

hours? its nonprofit world, so chillax compared with Biglaw or whatever. At the more established places in DC (a tiny bit in NYC), pay is similar to government jobs but can be higher.

sorry, this is all probabl too vague to be helpful.

What type of advancement available? Am I fucked if I don't go to an elite ug, but am otherwise very well qualified (smart, great GPA and EC's, strong industry experience)

a lot of people did go to a top UG, but its not required. do you have a JD? While i know people laugh when the say its versatile, the policy world is one place that it gets some cred (seen as better than MPP)...

what areas you interested in?

i'm working on a master's in finance in a program that typically sends people to bulge bracket investment banks. mainly interested in finance and economics, don't have much research or publishing experience though.

that is actually pretty great edu background to get into all types of policy, especially fin services regulation but also fiscal/budget stuff. tho i doubt you will want to, as your starting salary would probably be laughable compared with what your classmates would make...

only ibd (corp fin side) actually works 100 hours and they rarely recruit masters students outside MBA. more quant positions within the bank are less hours

actually, it would be harder to get a job teaching in a CC than a regular 4-year college. CC have more stringent requirements and generally will hire only candidates who have an advanced degree in the subject they're teaching. so, they'd sooner hire someone w/ an M.A. in poli sci than a Harvard J.D. to teach poli sci courses.
