what's the cut off where your law school gpa is too low to put on your resume? I've heard for UG if it's under a 3.0, leave it off. Is that true for law school as well. I have almost exactly a 3.0

if ur gpa was a 3.06 you still shouldn't round up to a 3.1. most schools have rules specifically against stuff like that. 3.04 might still be high enough to get BIGLAW ITE, depending on the top 10.

u still need to put it. if he doesn't put a 3.2 on his resume, they will assume it's a 2.8. It looks bad to not put ur gpa on ur resume when firms have specific cutoffs, thus it should only be done if ur gpa is below a 3.0.

I haven't been in OCI for years either, but I remember back then (I was class of 2008 so this was pre-ITE) people with below a 3.3 got BIGLAW at GW, and he's going to a T10. GW has a policy that you put your GPA if it's above a 3.0 and you must round up only to the nearest .01. We also didn't use class ranks then either.

are you sure about this? ive talked to a couple of juniors who lateralled (pre-ITE) and they were stressing about whether firms would ask for transcripts as laterals. there's obviously no reason to stress about this if you're listing your GPA anyhow, so I assumed it wasn't standard.

yes, recruiters still inquire about ur gpa, etc. some firms will definitely ask for transcripts before making a final decision.

I think u r too focused on getting initial interviews. At some point they will ask for a transcript to find out your GPA. If you list your GPA they might not necessarily ask because they have the info. So decide whether you'd rather have them looking at your transcript and all your specific grades or not.

Also, a lot of these decisions come down to credentials, practice area needs, diversity hiring, etc. Getting your foot in the door to interview isn't going to change that. They will still care about your GPA just as much after the initial interview.

yes, to a degree they are, not that many though. 95% of the ones that are tossing you, would probably toss you if you put your GPA, 5% would be giving you interviews.

the point is: putting your GPA will get you a few more interviews that may lead to jobs.

leaving off your GPA will get you a few more interviews that will never lead to jobs once they find out your GPA.

If your school has a specific policy stating that you should not put GPA's on, you might want to make note of that in your resume or cover letter to these firms. If it's a very good school as you say, most good firms will probably know of this policy, but if you are applying to truly regional firms that never see people from your school as you indicate, then you will want to give them notice of this policy. this might actually save you, in terms of getting initial interviews at least.

I don't think that will really help. I just want to stay out of the "immediate rejection" pile. They will find out my grades soon enough by asking for a transcript.

Anyway it seems weird for a graduate to be so servile to a career services office, doesn't it?

Like 20 schools in top 50 are on a 3.0 curve so that's BS. Any GPA over 3.0 you list, but really you should list even a 2.9 since they will see demand transcripts no matter what.

if it's below 3.8, don't put it on. also, lie about it and doctor ur transcripts. that's what chicago tells their alums to do, and it seems to work out fine for them.

I remember some guy on here claiming he didn't put his gpa, and just interviewed at a ton of places. He got rejected by every place that asked his gpa, but eventually somebody didn't ask (forgot?), and he get a job with them.
