Nothing is required if you're truly THAT good. Why would a firm care about you taking MBA classes if you're truly THAT FUCKING GOOD and make the company MILLIONS OR BILLIONS in profit? LOL C'mon man.
Pretty sure no PE, VC, or whatever firm would require a top producer to head back to school for a fucking graduate degree. Sorry.
Those guys might be superstars relative to their peers of the same age, but they aren't superstars in general (otherwise, they'd be enjoying their $5+ million bonus instead of taking an elective at HBS).

You're not explaining why an MBA is necessary if you're already generating huge profits for your company (which is what superstars do).
1. Why would your company want you to take 2 years off if you're such a superstar and top producer?
2. If you're such a superstar, why would you want to head back to school and miss out on 2 years of 7-8-9 figure income?
3. If you're a superstar, why aren't you already making 7-8 figures a year (superstars make 7-8-9 figures)?

i applied to stanford, it was my first choice but got rejected after interview. i'm originally from the west coast and worked in L.A. before coming here. i really like stanford's culture, and since i want to go back to the west coast it made sense to go there. unfortunately, they did not want me. they're insanely selective but look for different types of applicants from HBS. the latter goes for your typical smart kid who did well in college and then worked for a "brand" name, whether it's an i-bank, hedge fund, PE, MBB consulting, general management, etc. Stanford loves going for non-traditional folks like those who did non-profit, started their own company, etc.
In general, if someone is fortunate enough to get into both, they should pick HBS if they want to go into any area of finance except venture capital, or they want to work abroad and want to use the harvard name to maximize their impact.

do you think that having 900 ppl/year dilutes the brand at all?
also do you think the best employers grab the resume book knowing 850 kids don't have a chance, but it's a necessary evil to see the 50 kids that might make their cut?
