Between raising the standard deduction and eliminating the SALT deduction, it's going to completely negate the federal tax benefit of my mortgage/property taxes, which would normally save me $3k/yr.
A discounted cash flow analysis provides an additional "fuck you" because it indicates that the changed tax incentives might cause the price of my newly bought house by 5-10 percent.
Then add in the fact that the "simplification" of the tax system through fewer brackets is going to result in some of my income (as a $150k earner) being taxed at higher rates, while giving a huge windfall to those making $500k+.
This is truly an idiotic tax plan but I can deal with it because FUCK LIBS. |

My itemizations, taking into account property tax and mortgage deduction (which I heard may also get axed) would be around $35k. Without it, it would be low 20s. Sure, the standard deduction goes to $24k, but that sucks because I'm missing out on 10-11k of deductions. Plus most of my income in the middle brackets will likely get collapsed into a shittier effective percent. |
