Currently in niche practice somewhere between shitlaw/midlaw.

City attorney offer is 150k, obviously no bonus. Pension. Seems like a great opportunity but I have zero govt experience.

I’d heavily consider taking it. You’re not going anywhere at your current job, that salary is quite good for the public sector, and if government doesn’t work out you can still go solo. Seems like this job would also be a good move for your family. Good early 30s move.

hard to imagine you ever having a better offer, unless you like your niche between shitlaw and midlaw and want to do it elsewhere or on your own (doesn't sound like you do).

my point is that i doubt you have any real security doing what you're doing, so why on earth would you stick it out? are you actually making 250k or 300k? you can't possibly think doing it for 200k with no security is better than 150k with gov't security (and probably decent bumps up the pay scale yet to come).

Agree with that. Factoring in bonus current recent comp has floated between 200-250. 250 being a flush year.

I don't think the pay bumps at the govt job are substantial but the senior attorneys max out slightly north of 200 right now.

Recruiter has an interview for me at V60 but the thought of going back to biglaw makes me want to killself. I have no illusions about being able to juggle that life with my family obligations.

Precisely my thought, and inevitably this would happen or I would quit within two years. That's how long I lasted the first time around.

biglaw generally gets worse not better as you get more senior (at least past year 4 or 5). i'd hang up on the headhunter.
