Then another huge percentage are people just there for a short period of time. Immigrants that got a job, people fresh out of school, people in school, etc. Then you have weird groups that live there because that's where their weird neighborhood is (think certain Orthodox Jews and such).
Of normal, successful people that stay in NYC long term - it only really makes sense if you're outrageously rich to an extent that the money doesn't matter. Otherwise, people tend to move to a surrounding area (NJ, Westchester, LI). And of the really rich that stay in NYC - many have second homes somewhere else anyway. |
