yesterday i was listening to npr and they were dismissing the defense because "floyd had trace amount of drugs". jesus fucking christ. the media narrative versus the facts are so divergent they are basically two completely different stories.

sadly, no one will know this unless they dig deep or watch the trial themselves.

Clearly George was functioning enough to get in and out of a car, go to a store, try to pass fake money, then walk outside. Right. Not sure you people know how drugs or addicts work, not saying he was an addict, but it's possible to have drugs in your system, certainly opiates and speed, and not even feel high. Many heroin addicts get a fix just to stay level for the day. It's clear to me he's not tweaked out of his mind and super high.

ITT: lots of speculation about toxicology when we haven't even heard the evidence, lots of internet MDs and drug experts, most of which have no grasp on how drugs even work. No frame of reference, just hE wAs oN DrOOgz, he deserved to die. My god people have a heart. Open your mind to compassion and humanity and see that not a single person, however rough a background, should be killed by police which is what happened here. At the very least stop the speculation.

This manager sounds like a piece of shit. Taking money out of teenagers pockets if they take a counterfeit bill by accident. Instructing him to go and confront people out on the streets. Then telling him to call the police. No responsibility. What the fuck is the point in being a manager?

This is so odd to me. I understand it is a convenience store, but at least at most places I've worked at we would simply bag the bill and send it care of the Treasury/Secret Service to investigate the bill and eat the cost in the meantime. We were always told never to confront any individual. That is what security cameras are for.

The jury needs to understand that a person having a normal evening not causing trouble of any kind shouldn't die.

This wasn't a robbery or an assault, that store owner called the police on Floyd when he wouldn't have done it to a white person.

Even in the most extremely unfavorable case for Floyd, and we say the bill was fake. It was a misdemeanor at the absolute worst, and nobody should be choked to death on the pavement because of that.

Chauvin was warned many times to let Floyd breathe but he refused to lift his knee from his neck. When the ambulance arrived he was dead.

Is there no consequence for that? The man who did that is in the courtroom and taking notes, when Floyd died a horrible and painful death.

Beyond the social implications of everything and speaking strictly through a law only lens, this is an incredible case. I could see this going either way and both sides seem to be setting up really solid arguments. I do think the prosecution has a chance with the murder charge because the depraved mind element seems pretty vague, "conduct demonstrating an indifference to the life of others, that is not only disregard for the safety of another but a lack of regard for the life of another. " I think the prosecution should hammer home that Chauvin knew something was wrong with Floyd (be it drugs, whatever) and continuously disregarded his safety and his life.

Prediction Chauvin will be hit with felony murder due to MN allowing assualt, a felony, leading to someone's death to be used in a murder charge. Possible he beats manslaughter but so far the defense has not done anything to prove his actions do not add up to assualt.

These witnesses are lay witnesses and thus cannot opine on the law and if Chauvin's actions meet the legal standards of assault.

Okay so I went through a few articles and some of the statements from the witnesses inside the store at the time Floyd was there and they are all cagey and iffy about that counterfeit $20.

How did the clerk come to the conclusion that the bill was fake and as a result called the police? The police are also not commenting on the bill claiming it is evidence and can't discuss it.

Did the clerk use that pen thing or check it against light for a see through image? Or was it just an old bill in bad shape.

I am so confused about this bill and why it was accepted in the first place before then changing their mind and calling the police. The moment Floyd left the store his interaction with them was over.

Other store owners also said they never heard of a counterfeit bill problem in the area like the store owner is claiming.

Does it ever occur to Nelson that the witnesses have to keep asking him to repeat or rephrase questions, not because they are trying to be evasive or outsmart him, but because his questions are not clear.

Literally, Nelson are you asking if someone needs to be a certain age to come in the store or to buy products? Those are different things.

Also memo to the judge. Not asking the judge to do anything, just pointing out witnesses are not always being evasive or failing to answer the question. Nelson's questions are trash half the time and poorly worded.

Even a perfunctory cross runs the risk of pissing off the jury. The defense needs to cross-examine carefully, especially when the witnesses are "emotional" like this one.
