The end of Q1 is here! I have $25,415 in checking. So I will:

Send $4,800 over to my money market account (this is specifically to buy homeowners insurance at the end of May)

Send $4,100 over to my 4 children's 529 plans.

Send $4,200 over to my mortgagee for prepayment of my home (this will take 4 months of payments off the current amortization table and if I keep to this schedule, my home will be PIF by the time my 4th kid goes to college)

Send $4,000 over to brokerage to buy VTI.

This will leave me with about $8,315 in checking, which I will use to pay next month's bills, like the mortgage, childcare, credit card bills, etc.

This is my life.

My wife went to Starbucks this morning. She says she will clean the kitchen. I hope she follows through.

Tommy over here in the USA there are a proliferation of coffee shops selling $6-$11 coffees. There's this one place called Dutch Bros that will fill up a big 30oz plastic cup of ice and then sell you a drink with a bunch of milk and sugar for like 35% premium over Starbucks. They always have a line. If you just go to the gas station, a sandwich is like $4.50 these days. It's insane. $4.50 for a gas station sandwich wrapped in cellophane with three-day-old egg salad and a soggy bun inside.

That Indian restaurant sounds 180. There's a spot nearby that's run by Pakistanis. Sometimes my wife orders from there but it's like $70 for dinner if she does. And she's getting things like garlic naan, gobi manchurian, and maybe some dal, possibly something like spicy shrimp or yellow curry.

I know a prole that goes to Sonic and pays something like 80 cents for a cup of ice in which she then pours her water into. It boggles the mind how many people tolerate driving to places, waiting in lines in their cars, and wasting money on stupid shit. Time is not something that proles value, and that's why they see no issue with calling you out of the blue to waste 30 minutes discussing some problem (that they created) in a roundabout way and just waste your time too. It's because of this I don't answer any calls nor do I have a physical office to meet people in.

Bad time to buy VTI, given that it’s skewed to large caps that are currently over valued. Would be better to buy US small and mid cap stocks or non-US stocks that are less in a bubble.

cr, also vti pays a smaller dividend than some of the small cap stuff

I have read about the strategy of tilting to small cap value and I understand that the studies suggest you can get upwards of 1% premium if held over a very long time, but there's a lot more volatility and I just haven't felt ready to shift over to that strategy yet. Maybe when my portfolio gets a little bit bigger then I will do that because the volatility will be less scary. I don't know.

I have a very close friend who fully implemented a small cap tilt about 4-5 years ago. He has said that after all this time he's not seeing a clear difference yet. But I guess the strategy plays out over 30+ years not over 4.

Owning Nasdaq is a more reliable way of getting a premium over the long haul. Nasdaq beat S&P nineteen out of the last twenty 20-year rolling periods. More volatile in the short run, of course

You realize VTI will rebalance if current mega caps were hit hard, right? Unless you are in finance with access to inside info it makes zero sense to do anything other than buy VTI every month like clockwork. I’d put a lot of money on the guy doing that over 20 years vs anything else

There really is nothing to buy. Some day I’ll poast a pic of my credit card statement. It’s nothing but the grocery store, gas stations, and about 2x a month, Costco’s.
